...and anonymous police who can provide assistance in some way or another....
If the City Council moves to amend the residency ordinance, then the residents will have roughly 14 days to gather 1100 or so signatures to shoot down the law once it is passed. If the same group can gather around 800 signatures, they can write their own law, and get that passed as well.
My e-mail is Greg.forester@gmail.com ... if anyone wants to take part in this or help out, shoot me an e-mail.
This may be a few weeks off, but I want to get it out there, because if they amend the ordinance, we may as well just shutup until 2010. |

| Since the residency ordinance is a referendum issue, I'm not sure if Council has the power to amend it. Even if they did, how would it possibly be made too be retroactive to 2003? If city Hall thinks they have trouble now, wait until half the city's employee's petition to get a waiver too. Palmer is usurping power that's not there. But if we get to the point of needing signature, I will cover my area. Thanks - Bill |

I believe the Island, Glen Afton, Villa Park, and Mill Hill are covered at this point, with people willing to go out and get signatures. I know KrazyKatz has Cds with lists of all registered voters. We will need those.
By the way, I am pretty sure it doesn't matter how an ordinance was put into law, by referendum or through council. It can still be amended by City Council through a majority vote. |

A referendum can be amended after a certain amount of years have passed. In the case of residency, it has been so long that council can amend. The only thing that would stop them is the petition. Greg, I am glad that you are starting to organize this. Keep it up, everyone of us appreciates what you are doing.
Also, don't waste your time getting signatures from people that are not registered to vote. Use Pam's voter registration lists.
By the way, this also applies to the Chief of Police, enough years have passed to get a petition for a referendum that would return things to the way they were before Santiago. |

| ...we can't write a petition protesting a law until the law happens, because we need to know what the law says...we can organize though, get the word out, and get people willing to walk around and get the signatures. |

You can write your own law. It doesn't have to be a protest.
Also, there are other areas to target. Say for instance... Salary. I am sure something could be crafted that reduces a Director's salary based on where they live, regardless of any waiver.
The Supreme Court just reinforced the power that Referendum has.
Palmer could be looking at his first loss in an election. Don't think he will fight fair or lay down.
Think outside the box. |

| ...but whatever the petition is, we need to lay the groundwork for it through organizing. I need people willing to walk their neighborhoods and get these signatures. I can do the voter lists and hand them the petition forms. |

all of the Wards in the event that we may need signatures.
If Council wants the people to show them how strong we are, so be it.
But how pathetic Council will look when this hits the papers after making those like myself drudge the streets for signatures. They will get their signatures if it kills me.
And after we produce those signatures, I'll have my own press conference. I will tell every paper in this State what condition's I have endured by those in charge of not keeping the Law of the Residency Ordinance a LAW!!! So Council make me do the Million Man walk, and if I happen to get sicker, well then I suppose you will have another Lawsuit to deal with. Sick of being sick. But sicker yet, that Council has no BACK BONE.
If Council wants to make this personal, so be it. Not business anymore either, it's the PRINCIPAL of the Matter in question now.

| You can start getting city workers who have followed the rules to sign, they will all be mad and they may not sign for fear of retaliation, but I bet they will get their neighbors to sign. |

I remember collecting signatures for the deputy chiefs a few years ago. I hope we fare better than last time.
I'm a little fuzzy on the outcome. I mean I know it got shot down. Was it feinburg that killed it? Anyone remember? |

We did GREAT on that petition drive. We canvassed the entire city and received great support from the residents. Feinberg only maimed it, but the NJ Supreme Court resurrected it. Stay tuned. _________________ Government is not reason, it is not eloquence, it is force; like fire, a troublesome servant and a fearful master.
