these upcoming layoffs? How about any possible state or federal aide we may get? How about any of the senior guys retiring? I'm not suggesting this, but the teachers layoffs this month have doubled. Since the rumor of the August 15th pink slip date, effective October 1st came out-the morale has been shot in the department . Nobody seems to want to do anything and everyone remains quiet regarding the topic................... Can TPD actually function without 111 Officers?...............................just venting, thanks for reading....... Sad

I think you have a Union meeting on Friday, might be a good idea to discuss this issue there.

Attend the meeting, write down you questions now and take them with you this way you don't forget what to ask, or better yet, give the slip of paper to one of the executive board before the meeting so they can address the questions. This is not the place to discuss these things, that's my thought......All the best, stay safe. Wink

Nothing can be set in stone until the state decides on the award. From what I understand, the application process isn't complete until the end of August. The final amount probably won't be decided until October at the earliest. As for layoffs, there could be some, and probably should be some (not 110) since the award amount is unknown and cannot be relied upon. Then if the city receives some money back, the officers who were laid off could be hired back, perhaps in a few months. Some officers may elect to retire.

I imagine that there might be some request of a wage freeze to alleviate any immediate layoffs, as that appears to be par for the course of late. You might be faced with a decision of a one year pay freeze vs. 10 - 20 true layoffs. You may want to prepare yourself for that type of decision. Of course you have to balance this up against the 18 new positions that were created through the federal program just last year.

As for the morale being down, I can't understand why. Does anyone know of a single cop without a criminal record who is out of work and looking for a job? Hundreds of people have been and will be laid off in the City of Trenton who may never get a job again. Thousands face the same in the private sector.

is down. With layoffs in the future, anybody would feel down: Police, Fire, private sector, state workers, etc. I know layoffs, wage freezes, and furlough days are too common today, but it doesn't mean people won't be upset about it. How can lay offs not bother people?
This mess was not created by us, the people, but by the politicians. Since the 1960's the government has been giving money away, borrowing it and stealing it. Raising taxes to get the money it doesn's borrow. THAT became the norm.
Now here we are, everybody is hurting. It had to end some time on the state, local and federal level. And now is the time. But the government is still giving the money away, stealing it, and continues to borrow and spend money it doesn't have.
I feel very bad for anybody facing layoffs, wage cuts, etc. The working middle class is paying for everything.
I do agree that the number of layoffs might not be so high, and the city will end up hiring some people back, but the situation sucks.
Lets be careful out there. God bless all Police Officers, Firefighters, TEMS Officers, and their families.

It looks to me like Trenton is planning to layoff only women. Those left look like they're getting sex changes (and getting shortened).

That's why we have high crime. Our patrolmen are sooo tiny!

Its not that they aren't doing foot patrols, its just that you can't see them.

Hey section8, we'll cross that bridge if we need to. In the meantime, forgive us... but it is our effin' city! We can make lite of a newspaper graphic if we want to.

(damn, you made me get all serious when I was just starting to have a little fun again)

Everybody understands the seriousness of the situation. Let's not get on each other over an attempt at gallows humor. The graphic is a bit absurd, but I painfully understand the reality behind it.

Mike, alot of your post mention the private sector. Please answer me this. If your property is robbed, or you have a foot stuck in your azz, or your house catches on fire, who from the private sector will be there immediatley to help you ? I am aware of the financial mess were in, and it's my effin city also. You were applauded for your part involving the Water Dept issue, but that should not give you the right to make jokes about those who are there to protect you and yours. Have a safe day

I took a buy out 2 years ago from Verizon in part to save some jobs of union brothers that had young families. By the way they are still shedding jobs.

I was just dishing some trash talk back. The graphic just seemed like a good lighthearted distraction. OF COURSE I don't want to see anyone lose their job... just like I don't want to see anyone lose their house. But you can't dwell on it.

I actually think that the TPD is a step above other departments in the state, which is why I think we should compete with the state police in outsourcing some officers as a way of immediate cost savings without permanently losing experience. I would also like to see the academy come back.

Yeah, Palmjob screwed everything up with the PD and Fire Department, and as for the Academy the rectum faced Santiago made it a laughing stock by putting a few of his chosen few in charge, that ended the academy right there. Twisted Evil

I dont know about you but after reading the Ragtonian before you guys lost the academy I do recall that it was that JO Business Administrator who caused the lost of the academy along with Palmjob who gave him his blessings. Your Director and the Academy commander were ready to present their case and it was called off by the city hall two top JOs. Thank you BA JO & Palmjob.
